Norma was born on the 15th December, 1934 in Hawkes Bay, New Zealand to Jock and Norma Gordon. The youngest daughter and sister to Cathie and the late Noeline. She grew up in Gisborne, New Zealand. Norma attended Awapuni School where she achieved the highest accolade of being Dux of the School. Coming from a musical family, Norma excelled in this, winning many singing awards. She was also quite adept at playing the violin , piano and organ. Upon completion of school, she trained as a florist, starting her own florist business, working out of her mother’s shop. In 1951, she met the love of her life Tony Evans who she married on the 27th March, 1954, 56 years ago on Saturday. Norma and Tony had 5 beautiful children, Karen, Anne, Debbie, John and Paul and though having a full house, she still found time to care for foster children. Once her children grew older, Norma managed her own bakery business. Wanting to encourage Paul to study for his School Cert, she decided to join him and enrol in Economics which she passed with flying colours. In 1986, Norma and Tony followed their children to live in Australia. She quickly immersed herself in volunteer work at the Gold Coast Hospital, Shepherds Respite Centre and Meals on Wheels and even when physically unable, she still managed to donate to her favourite charities. Although fighting a battle with cancer for the last 10 years, she managed to fulfil a lifetime dream of travelling to Europe and travelling in their campervan around eastern Australia. Not only was she a loving wife to Tony and a cherished mother, she was also an adored Norni of her grandchildren, Toni, Adam, Jordyn, Will, Bella and Zachary.
